Little By Little...
Little by little, everyday.
One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. (Luke 16:10 ESV)
No one expects someone a new runner to finish a marathon by training for a week. Likewise, spiritual growth takes time, a good coach and practice.
Jesus’ followers radically changed the course of history after they saw their Lord rise from the grave. And yet, their faith did not develop overnight. Jesus lived with them for about three years. During these three years, Jesus taught them, loved them and rebuked them. He sent them off on shopping errands, had meals with them and worked miracles.
Growing in faith means learning to trust God by seeing life through His Word. How does growth happen? The answer is the same today as it was then: little by little. God doesn’t expect you to do more than you are capable of, but He does want you to grow, even if little.
What can you trust Him with this week? Praying in your cafeteria before you eat? Text messaging a person who needs encouragement? Giving or serving sacrificially? Applying last Sunday’s message? What has God asked you to be faithful with? As you trust in God, keep your eyes fixed on the one who rose from the grave!
Dear Lord, as I grow in my relationship with you, help me trust You with little things, that over time I may learn to trust you with bigger things. Amen.
